Tom Duncan Tom Duncan Tom Duncan, a retired health care executive and dedicated civic leader, has joined the Board of Trustees at Carthage.

Mr. Duncan retired last year as vice president and chief marketing officer of the Froedtert South system in Kenosha, which closed the book on his nearly 50-year career in hospital administration. He’s well-acquainted with Carthage as a parent, faculty member, and financial supporter.

In 2007, the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce and the Kenosha Area Business Alliance presented him a Community Service Award for his long-standing commitment to the area. He has served on boards for the Chamber of Commerce, the Education Foundation of Kenosha, the United Way of Kenosha County, the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, and Hospice Alliance.

Most recently, Mr. Duncan completed a three-year term on the Kenosha Unified School Board. Elected in 2018, he served as president for the final year.

Fellow Carthage trustees welcomed Mr. Duncan during the board’s winter meeting Feb. 22-23. The board has ultimate governing and fiduciary responsibility for the college.

“Tom’s long expertise in health care at Froedtert South and long commitment to Kenosha endeavors are second to none, and I am so appreciative that he sees Carthage’s further development and impact as part of his legacy,” says President John Swallow.

Mr. Duncan has a bachelor’s degree in biology and political science from St. Olaf College and an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University. The new trustee also brings seven years of experience as an adjunct faculty member, teaching organizational management at Carthage and hospital administration at Concordia College in Minnesota.

He and his wife, Jan, have two children: Stephen Duncan and Carthage alumna Erin (Duncan) Zematis ’01. After establishing a scholarship at the College for students who pursue education, pre-health, or nursing and display a commitment to physical fitness, the couple expanded their support to Carthage’s new certified nurse aide (CNA) program.
